The name of the next world chess champion will become known on May 30, 2012.

With the 12 games between acting world champion Viswanathan Anand and his Israeli challenger Boris Gelfand ending in a 6-6 stalemate, the world championship format calls for a rapid, blitz and Armageddon forms of chess to determine the World Chess Champion 2012.

There will be four ‘rapid' games with 25 minutes to each player and a 10-second increment after every move. In case of a 2-2 result, they will play two ‘blitz' games with five minutes to each and a three-second increment. There will be five such matches and if the tie persists, there will be an ‘Armageddon' game which will be played with five minutes to white and four to black. The white side will be forced to win. Should there be a draw, black will be declared winner. Experts say they have equal chances.
