Serzh Sargsyan meets with Pope Benedict XVI
On December 12, Serzh Sargsyan today left for Italy where he met with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. President Sargsyan and His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI praised the high level of relations between Armenia and Vatican.
The parties exchanged views on the cooperation between the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Catholic Church, stressing the role of the two churches in the society and the importance of bringing up generations in the spirit of Christian values.
Serzh Sargsyan also met with the State Secretary of Vatican, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of deepening the bilateral relations and reffered to the strengthening of cultural ties. Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to Vatican for preserving the Armenian cultural heritage abroad.
Serzh Sargsyan later visited the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter and the Armenian Catholic Church of Vatican.
