Tents to be placed at Northern Avenue
The New Year's festivities will kick off in Yerevan on December 20 at 20:00 when Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan will solemnly turn on the lights of the major Christmas tree at Republic Square.
Head of External Design and Advertisements Araz Baghdasaryan informed that the 31 meter Christmas tree was prepared with 6,000 branches of fir and birch trees.
The Christmas tree will be decorated with more than 4000 toys and new light-diode lamps. There will also be an unprecedented 3D show and fireworks display.
Concerts will be held at Republic Square on the night of December 31, January 6 and 13. Children's games and different contests will be held at Freedom Square, Swan Lake (currently an ice skating rink), Charles Aznavour Square and other spots for leisure with the participation of children's favorite fairy tale characters.
The social department of the municipality has prepared New Year's gifts and theater performance tickets for nearly 3,000 children of socially disadvantaged families.
A New Year's tent fair will be held at Northern Avenue on December 14-January 15.
