Philippe Lefort: “War does not stem from EU interests”
During a meeting with Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Philippe Lefort Philippe Lefort pledged to do his best under his mandate to support the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs.
"The European Union does not want to see a new war in the South Caucasus. Regional peace stems from EU interests," said the EU official.
In his turn, the Armenian Defense Minister stressed that ‘Armenia is committed to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and observes the ceasefire regime: Armenia resorts to retaliatory measures exceptionally to neutralize the provocations of Azerbaijani snipers.'
At the request of the guest, the Armenian Defense Minister presented the situation at the line of contact with the armed forces of Azerbaijan, and called the attention of the EU Representative to the activity of Azeri snipers.
