Much harvest, discontent consumers
Serzh Sargsyan had declared agriculture as a major sphere. According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Samvel Galstyan, the government's resolutions and the favorable climate gave the opportunity to receive good harvest.
Samvel Galstyan says the Ministry of Agriculture has registered serious progress in terms of vegetable harvest and is rest assured that fruits and vegetables are "produced" in Armenia and in large quantity.
"Last year, 707 thousand tons of vegetable was produced and according to this year's statistics, since the harvest is over, 760 thousand tons of vegetable have been produced," the deputy minister informed.
According to him, the abundance of crops has contributed to the fall of prices. "The price of tomatoes is lower than last year's price. Potato prices range 50-70 drams less than last year."
However, citizens don't agree with the deputy minister.
"Prices are higher than last year. What difference is he talking about?" Vladimir Makyan told "A1+".
"I think there is abundance every year, but prices go up every year," Nune Badalyan mentioned.
Some citizens said the high prices were due to phoniness.
"The government can't regulate, the ministry is not doing what it should be doing, markets are now in the hands of some organized criminals and they are the ones forming the pricing policy," a passer-by said, asking to present him as Uncle Vova.
Another citizen, who asked to be presented as Frik, said: "There was a lot of harvest, but it wasn't cheap. The prices were twice as high. This is due to the deals made with resellers."
