Armenia defeats Israel at 2011 World Team Chess Championship

The Armenian chess team started successfully at the 2011 World Team Chess Championship in China, beating Israel 3,5:0,5 in Round 1.

Armenian grandmasters Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian and Gabriel Sargissian defeated Emil Sutovsky, Evgeni Postny and Tamir Nabaty respectively. Sergei Movsesian tied his game against Michael Rouse.

Ukraine beat Africa's champion Egypt 2,5:1,5, while China and India tied their games against Azerbaijan and Hungary respectively.

On July 18, Armenia will face the USA which lost to Russia 1:3 in the first round.
