Talks continue in Brussels

The 6th plenary sitting of Armenia-EU talks on the Association Agreement took place in Brussels on July 15. The Armenian delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Karine Kazinian. The chief negotiator from the European side was Gunnar Wiegand, head of a Department on Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.

The main objectives and principles of the future agreement were discussed at the sitting. Reference was made to political dialogue and cooperation in the fields of justice and security.

The parties summed up the results of the talks, noting that considerable progress had been registered in the negotiation process launched on July 18, 2010. The next plenary sitting is expected to be held in October of the current year.

The second sitting of the Armenia-EU Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security took place in Brussels on July 14. The sitting covered issues of facilitation of the visa regime, migration, fighting organized crime, border management, etc. The parties exchanged views on the latest legislative changes in Armenia and the European Union, the judicial reforms implemented in Armenia and the EU assistance in the process.
