Can people prevent earthquakes?
On July 7, Yerevan's Aarhus Center will host a presentation of a project initiated by the Armenian Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth (AASPE). The program entitled "The Impact of Major Earthquakes on Environment" is carried out with the support of the OSCE Yerevan Office.
Project manager Ashot Avanesyan will present the possible consequences of man-made and natural disasters in Armenia, relying on the international experience and the grave aftermath of the Spitak earthquake.
The project will also refer to the consequences of landslides and mudslides, dormant volcanoes, leakage of toxic substances, etc.
Specialists say that man cannot prevent earthquakes but can reduce their impact on the environment with literate and careful approach.
