Animals starve in the zoo
Young Biologists Association NGO has addressed a letter to Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian, calling his attention to the starving "residents" of Armavir's zoological garden.
"The animals of the zoo were brought from different regions and the USSR. Today the zoo occupies an area of 8 hectares and houses numerous animals, including bears, martens, golden eagles, griffon vulture, that have suffered greatly from human activity. A great number of animal species living in the zoo are enlisted in the Red Book.
To date, animals have been fed by Armenia Army's training brigade after Marshal Bagramyan. Twice a week the administration of the military unit gave the leftovers to the zoo. But a month ago, they refused to help the zoo, thus driving the animals to starvation," reads the letter.
