Three people died in Iraq after soccer fans celebrated their home team's victory in the second match of the Asian Cup play-offs with gunshots. The winners won the team from the United Arab Emirates 1:0, as reported by the "Frans Press" agency.

Three people died and 10 were injured in Diala. Eleven citizens were also injured from the fans' "joy" and received wounds.

In December 2010, the Iraqi government had given a special assignment to police to meet with soccer fans who often celebrate their teams' victories by shooting.

The Iraqi team's victory was very significant because the team would be left out of the competition if it lost or tied the match. The Iraqis will play their next match with the South Korean team on January 19.
