FIDE has changed the place of Candidates matches for the next World Championship Cycle. The matches will be held in Kazan, Russia and not in Azerbaijan's capital Baku, FIDE Presidential Board reported yesterday.

The reason for the decision was that Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian, the winner of FIDE Grand Prix, refused to travel to Baku to participate in the matches.

Former world champion, Bulgarian GM Veselin Topalov today addressed a letter to FIDE President stating he would not participate in any tournament to be held in Russia.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is going to write a return letter and ask Topalov to change his decision otherwise he will be replaced by Alexander Grischuk (Russia)
