Holland defeats Uruguay 3-2, advances to World Cup Final
The Netherlands defeated Uruguay in a 3-2 victory in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 6, 2010 in the first semi-final of the World Football Championship.
Both Netherlands and Uruguay were undefeated in 2010 World Cup gameplay previous to Tuesday's semifinal match.
Holland got the best possible start with a 18th minute strike form veteran captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst handing them the lead in a first-half dominated by the Dutch.
But against the run of play Diego Forlan put his team back in the match with a long-range strike four minutes before half-time.
The Dutch scored the second and third goals on 70 and 73 minutes making the score 3:1 in their favour. The second goal was scored by Wesley Sneijder and the third by Arjen Robben.
On 92 minute of the game, Uruguayan reduced the difference in score with another sharp score by Pereyra.
Note that during the 25 official games held since September 2008, Holland has suffered not a single defeat. The Dutch have won 20 and tied 5 games. Moreover, Holland is the only team, which has had victories during the 2010 World Cup.
Holland has advanced to the final for the third time. The team's first two attempts ended in failure. In 1974 and 1978, Holland lost to Germany and Argentine respectively.
