Aronian ties with Gashimov

On February 24, Armenian Grand Master Levon Aronian defeated Azerbaijan's Vugar Gashimov in the final 10th round of Linares chess tournament in Spain. After nine draws the Armenian GM finally had a victory and scored 3rd with 5,5 points.

The tournament leader Alexander Grischuk (Russia) drew with Francisco Vallejo (Spain) and ranked 2nd with 6 points.

Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria took the lead after beating Boris Gelfand of Israel.

Note that Levon Aronian was the only chess player who suffered no defeats in the tournament.

The standings are as follows: Veselin Topalov (6.5 points), Alexander Grischuk (6), Levon Aronian (5.5), Boris Gelfand (4), Vugar Gashimov (4) and Francisco Vallejo (4).
