Shifting results
Armenian chess players are not doing too well in the "Aeroflot Open" chess tournament in Moscow.
Arman Pashikyan from group "A1" lost in the 7th round. Gabriel Sargsyan and Zaven Andriasyan tied their matches, while Hrant Melkumyan scored a victory. Arman and Gabriel each have 4 points in their active, while Zaven and Hrant have 3.5 points each. They are after the leaders of the competition by 1 and 1.5 points respectively.
Today Armenian chess players will face off against the following competitors in the 8th round:
Alexander Khalifman (Russia)-Arman Pashikyan
Gabriel Sargsyan-Maxim Rodschtein (Israel)
Ivan Lopez (Spain)-Zaven Andriasyan
Sergey Volkov (Russia)-Hrant Melkumyan
Tigran Kotanjyan from group "A2" lost in the 7th round, while David G. Petrosyan won. Both scored 4 points each and are well behind the leading players.
After the 8th round, Tigran Simonyan and David Grigoryan from group "B" scored 4.5 and 2.5 points respectively. They are no longer contending for the top spots because they are very behind from the leading players Gyulnar Mamadov (Azerbaijan) and Yengin Topak (Turkey) who each have 6.5 points.
Chess player David Shahinyan, who heads group "C", unfortunately lost in the 8th round and gave his Russian opponent Edward Khatoyev the chance to balance the score with 6.5 each. Six chess players, including Ashot Avetisyan, came close to them with 6 points in their actives after the 8th round.
