Playing white, Bulgarian Grandmaster Veselin Topalov outplayed Azerbaijani Vugar Gashimov and Russian Alexander Grischuk beat Israeli Boris Gelfand.
Armenian GM Levon Aronian tied with Francisco Vallejo of Spain.
After the first two rounds Topalov and Grischuk top the standings with 1,5 points. Aronian and Vallejo come 2nd with one point.
In the 3rd round, on February 15, Levon Aronian will face Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria.
