Shamshyan had swollen eye
A Yerevan court today adjourned hearing in the case of Gagik Shamshyan, a photojournalist of Aravot and Chorrord Ishkhanutiun dailies.
Defendant Shamshyan motioned the court to adjourn the sitting since he had problems with his right eye and was undergoing treatment.
After Judge Mkhitar Papoyan asked Shamshyan for a health certificate, Gagik Shamshyan said: "Shall I fetch a certificate assessing to the fact that the swollen eye is mine?"
Anyway, the judge granted the motion and postponed the hearing till December 11.
Remind that the court had imposed a fine of AMD 350 000 on Gagik Shamshyan for showing disrespect for court. Shamshyan has paid AMD 200 000.
Now plaintiff Karen Khachatryan has motioned the court to change the fine and engage the defendant in public work. "For instance, Gagik Shamshyan can work in children's homes, in nursing homes, etc," said Karen Khachatryan.
"I am eager to work in children's homes but I shall never work in nursing homes. Let our officialdom work in nursing homes. Let them sell their Jeeps, Hummers and palaces and allot the money to nursing homes," said the defendant. The latter is hopeful that the judge will turn down the plaintiff's petition.
"If I had shrunk responsibility I wouldn't have paid the 200 000 drams. I have already pledged to pay the test of the fine (150 000 drams) within a year," said Shamshyan.
