Armenia won Azerbaijan
The Armenian men's chess team may seriously be on its way to becoming the winner of the European chess team championship. In the 7th round, the Armenian chess players won the leading Azerbaijani one-man team 2.5:1.5. Gabriel Sargsyan celebrated his victory, while Levon Aronyan, Vladimir Hakobyan and Tigran L. Petrosyan tied their matches.
The end of the championship will be rather interesting for chess fans because there are three teams competing in the competition. The Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani teams each scored 11 points, while the Ukrainian, Polish and Dutch teams each scored 10 points. Today the leading players of the Russian and Armenian teams will face-off.
The Armenian women's chess team also played well. In the subsequent 7th round, the Armenian female chess players destroyed the Romanian women's chess team with a score of 3.5:0.5 and are currently in the top three with 10 points. Elina Danielyan, Lilit Mkrtchyan, Lilit Galoyan all celebrated their victories and only Nelly Aghinyan tied her match.
The chessboard is led by the Russian and Georgian teams which each have 12 points in their active. In the 8th round, the Armenian team is going to face-off against the Ukrainian team, which also scored 10 points, but is in 5th place.
