NO MONEY FOR CLEANING GETAR

In parallel with construction works, the part of Getar River that flows through Yerevan is filled with refuse. It seems that everyday garbage and building refuse will cover the channel of Getar completely.

Getar will be closed between Sayat Nova Street and Heratsi Street in the result of construction works. When the Yerevan Municipality informed this, ecologists announced that it would negatively influence on the ecology.

“A1+” tired to find out how Getar is cleaned and who monitors the works.

Edik Karapetyan, employee of Kentron Community Municipality informed “A1+” that the construction company, which implements constructions on Getar, removes not only its refuse, but also the refuse in the river.

Kentron Municipality was to clean Getar. “You see the situation of Getar, a huge amount of money is necessary for its cleaning and we decide to clean it now or not”, said Edik Karapetyan.

Kentron Municipality has not taken measures to clean Getar this year. The reason is not in the construction works. Last year the river was cleaned but this year financial means do not allow.

The Municipally spent 20 million drams for cleaning the river last year and according to Mr Karapetyan “they may not allow themselves such indulgence this year for the lack of money”.
