NAIRI HUNANYAN MADE HIS STATEMENT

Defendant Nairi Hunanyan himself will henceforth protect his interests . Today he repudiated services of his defence counsel Beniamin Minasyan, member of Advocates’ Union of Armenia. “Discord and distrust emerged between us” ,- Hunanyan says.

It’s the statement Hunanyan was going to make since morning. According to him, Minasyan refused to “assume a political burden on himself” , i.e., to support the defendant in “pre-election process” .

Under civic initiative, Nairi Hunanyan is going to propose himself as a candidate for presidential election in 2003. Hunanyan announces “his defence counsel was put pressure on“ . “My candidature is objectionable for namely Robert Kocharyan as he is going to be re-elected” ,- Hunanyan says.

Advocate Beniamin Minasyan says “he is not exerted pressure on ” , he just doesn’t want to meet Hunanyan so frequently . Judge Samvel Uzunyan described his excuse as “ridiculous and pitiful” . “Visits to insulator are obligatory. It’s Your duty” ,- he told Minasyan.
Defendant informed the people “the account for collecting pre-election pawn is open” . He even suggested Prosecutor Hakob Martirosyan to transfer his salary to the account. Martirosyan explains Hunanyan’s conduct with “atmosphere of negligence” . “Indifference of both trial participants and the public made Hunanyan the master of the situation” ,- Hakob Martirosyan says. According to him, October 27 case victims are the most indifferent ones .
Trial will continue on October 23.
