U.S. PROMOTES SCIENCE DEVELOPMENT IN ARMENIA

Economy

Americans are now interested in Garni Space Research Center development. Yesterday, they provided a $275,000 grant aimed, as U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Ordway said, at commercial researches to the Center.

The U.S. side is sure Armenia has a huge potential in space research sphere. At the same time, Americans would like to know what measures are being taken in Armenia to crack down on corruption and money laundry and how much the republic has accomplished in building sustainable democracy.

Armenia’s debt to the U.S. makes 45 million USD. On World Bank’s advice, certain bids are being made to restructure the debt - implement environmental projects within the amount Armenia owes.

Armenian officials, however, didn’t manage to avoid debt repayment. “The think is that under the U.S. law only three category of debts can undergo restructuring and our case doesn’t fall into these categories”, said Armenian Finances and Economy Minister Vardan Khachatryan.
