ONE SHOULD BEWARE THE TSUNAMIS

Politics

Today France's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Henry Cuny gave a press conference to inform the Armenian journalists about ''real proposals, not speech, but a report'' presented by French President Jacques Chirac at the Davos summit January 26. Jacques Chirac warned the summit participants that ''silent tsunamis'' caused by social polarization, poverty and epidemics can burst out in any country.

''Production of two big enterprises exceeds the Gross Domestic Product of the African continent'', the Ambassador said, stressing the French President’s rectitude without naming these enterprises however. According to the Ambassador, Jacques Chirac submitted several important proposals to the Davos summit. For instance, he suggested taxing upon international bargains and air-ticket sales. ''If a 1-dollar tax will be imposed on each air-ticket, $3 billion can be received annually'', Henry Cuny said. These funds will be spent on poverty reduction, children’s mortality, struggle against AIDS and so on.

''River comes out of small streams'', the Ambassador said. He considers that Armenia will approve the proposals. According to him Armenia like France is suffering from ''tsunamis'' such as AIDS and tuberculosis . Fortunately, Armenia contrary to France has not suffered from international terrorism .

By the way, during the Davos summit the proposals made by the French President received the approval of a dozen state leaders.
