CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDUM TO BE CONDUCTED AMID OVERWHELMING PUBLIC UNAWARENESS
Support A1+!Sociometer sociology center and Radio and Television Development Association convened a news conference on Friday to express their views on constitutional referendum.
In their opinion, Armenian people are still unprepared for the referendum because of insufficient information about the subject.
Sociometer sociologic center director Aaron Adibekyan said surveys conducted in Armenia showed people are ill-informed. They even didn’t know what is democracy or legal regime concept. Media outlets release distorted information, Radio and Television Development Association chair Alexander Iskandaryan added.
In his words, journalists today are merely carrying out orders. Iskandaryan finds it a wrong situation.
Adibekyan shared the opinion saying media representatives “consider themselves as judges, prosecutors and even God while the only thing the community waits from them is information”.
He said nowadays tycoons-owned media outlets are increasingly becoming commonplace.
If media keeps releasing propaganda instead of information, ordinary people will barely understand something in constitutional amendments, think both Iskandaryan and Adibekyan.
Answering our correspondent’s question if it is reasonable to conduct the referendum, Adibekyan said: “We are in doubt about a quorum”.
