ARMENIAN LEADERSHIP SEEKS WESTERN FAVOUR JEOPARDIZING ARMENIANS SAFETY WORLDWIDE
Support A1+!Armenian intellectuals gathered today in National Sciences Academy building in an angry protest against the government’s recent decision to send a group of Armenian military to Iraq.
Raphael Ghazaryan, a member of Armenian National Sciences Academy, accused Armenian leadership of taking west-leaning stance on Iraq issue in an apparent attempt “to please our western master”.
Armenian Intellectuals Forum intends to keep Arab world in touch with the fact that the decision was made by one person or a group of persons, not by Armenian people, said Ghazaryan.
Another representative of the Forum Syrian Armenian Gevorg Yazrchyan, who came to Armenia just two weeks ago, said atmosphere of fear is already created in the Middle East countries. As the first sign of that, he pointed out the incident between Kurds and Armenians instigated recently in Lebanon.
Yazrchyan says Arabs’ perception of the news is that Armenians, not Kocharyan, are sending troops to Iraq.
As an example of that, the Syrian Armenian singled out a headline in an Iraqis newspaper: Even Friendly Armenia Sending Troops to Help Americans.
He denounced the Armenian authorities’ decision as the U.S. intelligence plot to drive Armenians from their homes in Iraq and force them to flee the country.
It is remarkable that Dashnaktsutyun is the only party overseas that hasn’t joined Armenian community’s protest, he said.
It should be reminded that Dashnaktsutyun is a member of Armenia’s tree-headed ruling coalition.
Syria’s and Lebanon’s Dashnaks demands a clear stance from the party, said Yazrchyan.
Pro-governmental parties’ representatives - Aram Sargssyan, Smbat Ayvazyan, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Aram Karapetyan - were present at the event as well, but not a single word has been pronounced by them during the event.
