JAN PETERSON IN ARMENIA
Support A1+!Jan Peterson, Chairman of CE Ministerial Board and Norway Foreign Minister is in Yerevan on October 10-12. “To learn more about Armenia”, Jan Peterson phrased the aim of the visit during the joint press conference with Armenian FM.
Armenian FM Vardan Oskanyan informed that the issues on honouring the CE obligations by Armenia and potential on cooperation between 2 countries were discussed with his Norwegian colleague.
How do the two Ministers treat membership of Turkey to EU? According to Peterson, Norway is not an EU member, so it doesn’t express any standpoint on it except watching. Armenia is an observer, too, but Oskanyan is alarmed – Turkey must become an EU member for meeting the demands of the European structure and not as a result of a political decision.
”Turkey doesn’t deserve to be granted the right to start negotiations”, Minister Oskanyan said adding a country that forbids usage of “genocide” word and which frontier is closed with Armenia etc can’t become an EU member.
By the way, Jan Peterson announced at the fall session of PACE that he was anxious for South Caucasus, including Armenia, basing upon the monitoring results of Ago Group.
Is there contradiction between the reports of Ago Group and Jerzi Jaskernia? Mr. Peterson said PACE is an independent structure and being a CE parliamentarian for 20 years he knows how to respect the organization. Besides, he added he can’t voice a point of view about a report he is not well-aware of.
