RUSSIAN-GEORGIAN RELATIONS TO BE DISCUSSED AT PACE SESSION

Politics

PACE chair Peter Schieder started his today’s news conference in Strasbourg by saying that all CE member countries, not only Russia, have to embark on the struggle against terrorism.

Schieder said Russian-Georgian relations would be discussed Thursday at the PACE session at Georgia’s request. Georgian parliament speaker Nino Burdzanadze is expected to come to Strasbourg for that. Russian Duma’s representatives too expressed their wish to participate in the discussion.

Azeri journalists tried to find out Schieder’s attitude toward Azerbaijan.

The latter declined to answer their questions saying he’ll answer all the questions related to Azerbaijan during discussion of fulfilling CE commitments by the country.

The PACE chair spoke turned to Turkish PM Erdogan’s expected visit to Strasbourg. He said the CE completed its monitoring in Turkey and 12 Turkey-related issues are now under the CE discussion.

A news conference is to be given Monday by the CE Secretary General Teri Davis.
