CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS PACKAGE UNDER DISCUSSION
Support A1+!Constitutional reforms proposed by ruling coalition were discussed Wednesday at a seminar held in American University at the initiative of the Activity for the Sake of Community organisation.
Two other versions have been proposed by United Labour Party parliamentary group and opposition MP Arshak Sadoyan.
Our correspondent asked Arshak Sadoyan how could views of right-wing liberal Republicans, left socialist Dashnaks and Orinats Erkir party members coincide.
“The ruling coalition was created without any common ideological ground and the coalition member parties united only around the idea of backing president Kocharyan. That’s why working out the constitution they are guided by the same principle: to make it suitable to the president”, he answered.
Democracy organisation chair Vardan Poghosyan pointed out controversies between Armenian reality and our current constitution.
National Assembly’s vice-speaker Tigran Torosyan noted that it would be better to take as an example a developing East European country, not a prosperous state.
