ORINATS ERKIR IS ALONE

Politics

The issue of compensation to citizens who have lost their deposits in Savings Bank after Soviet Union collapse appears to be uninteresting to a majority of the parliament. Only 30 of 131 lawmakers took part at discussion over the commission report.

It seemed the majority doesn’t care of that. Taking a neutral position, they distanced themselves from discussion. Only Orinats Erkir and Republican fractions’ MPs discussed the issue.

Republicans persist in thinking that deposits return is impossible as the government can’t afford to appease depositors at state budget expense and any decision will be nothing more than deception of the depositors. They say in case of indexation 90% of depositors are thought to willingly forgo compensations, because those having 1,000 soviet rubles will be offered only 20,000 drams and with every additional thousand the compensation is diminishing.

The formal proposal is not submitted as a bill for the parliament consideration. This was only the parliamentary commission report.
