Support A1+!Armenian National Committee representative Hilda Choboyan said Thursday Turkey is likely to become a full-fledged member of the European Union though the organization by the end of the year.
In her opinion, the main obstacle on the way of Turkey membership might be the fact that a law on religious minorities isn’t adopted yet. German Christian-Democratic Party is strongly opposed to Turkey’s membership, but Germany’s official stance on Turkey has always been positive, Choboyan said.
As it is known, the committee is seeking international recognition of Armenian Genocide for decades. Choboyan said the organization intends intensify its efforts in that direction. Turkey, as always, remains resistant to that. Germany opposes the problem solution, because as many as 3 million Turks live there. Great Britain’s Liberal Party as well isn’t in favor of that, she said.
