ARMENIAN ARMY’S 12TH ANNIVERSARY

On January 28, 1992, the then Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrossyan signed a decree on Armenian Army foundation. However, yet before that Armenian Armed Forces controlled by the Interior Ministry defended the country.

Vazgen Sargssyan, the first Armenian Defense Minister, run the army at its formation stage. He is known as the Armenian army founder.

Armenian army is considered the strongest army in the region. Its achievements for past 12 years prove that.

The first large-scale parade was staged in 1999, when Vazgen Sargssyan was the republic PM and General Vagharshak Harutyunyan was in charge of Defense Ministry.

Today, the state can’t afford military parades. Once Vazgen Sargssyan said the army develops at higher speed than the state does and that seems very dangerous.

It is remarkable, that today state-run media outlets not a single time mention Vazgen Sargssyan in their reports and footages.

The same went on yesterday. When president Kocharyan awarded a number of military titles and medals, he didn’t mention the army founder’s name.

Yesterday, current defense minister Serge Sargssyan answering to journalists’ questions said the army has not so many problems but the main of them is officers to be paid their salaries in time.
