EXPECTING FOR THE ARMENIAN OFFICERS TO COME BACK

Politics

Blocking of participation of the Armenian officers in the planning conference of NATO’s “Best Joint Effort-2004” exercise in Baku by Azerbaijan promises to turn into an international scandal. Azeri Mass Media, “Echo” newspaper of Baku in particular drop a gentle hint at this, citing the source closely standing to the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan. According to the source, the Armenian part provokes it and it may well be that NATO leadership reacts to it.

Azeri Foreign Minister Vilayat Guliev’s statement is to be monitored in the context, saying his country bears no responsibility for failure of the arrival of the Armenian officers in Baku. Azeri Consul General in Istanbul Ibrahim Nabighoghlu says that neither Armenia nor NATO appealed to the consulate for visas.

Armenian Defense Ministry press secretary Colonel Seyran Shahsuvaryan says Ministry expects for the Armenian officers to return from Istanbul and a press conference will tomorrow take place after they are back.
