“NATO IS A SHOP”
Support A1+!If a country doesn’t want to keep aloof, it must co-operate with NATO. One can sum up the seminar on “NATO and Security Prospects in Armenia” this way. NATO representatives having visited Armenia set themselves tasks to find attitude of Armenian Media representatives towards NATO.
Before becoming aware of the standpoints of Armenian journalists, Despina Ino-Afentul, worker of NATO’ Department on Information and Relations with the Public, introduced what NATO is.
According to her, the greatest mission of NATO is joining the two poles of the world, which now fight against the common problem. ”Thanks to NATO peace has been prevailing between Turkey and Greece for 50 years despite numerous problems”, she says.
NATO representative referred to Karabakhi problem. Under her words, Armenia and Azerbaijan can’t become NATO members unless Karabakhi conflict is settled.
”If you want to get rid of your enemy, either make it your friend or deal with it”, Ino-Afentul said citing Turkey and Greece. Her example became clearer when it turned that she was from Greece by origin.
NATO other representative Neola Olivier described his organisation more impressionably. ”NATO is a shop. You can take there anything you want”, he said.
Naturally he didn’t refute that one must always pay when taking something. At his words, this time Armenia is just to meet the set obligations and partake in reforms.
Olivier assured they hadn’t arrived in Armenia to take away our natural resources. It was a rather encouraging announcement, so that the Armenian journalists can take a deep breath and to display their stance to NATO at continuation of the seminar tomorrow.
