POLICE TAKE MEASURES TO PREVENT PROVINCES FROM PARTICIPATING IN RALLY

Total number of the arrested in Ararat province exceeds 60.

Aramais Barseghyan, the head of presidential candidate Stepan Demirchyan’s electoral headquarter of the province named all those taken in custody saying there are many drivers among them. One of the drivers after being beaten and intimidated was freed.

The drivers are being underwent intimidation in a bid to be prevented from carrying people to the Armenian capital for participation in the rally scheduled for Sunday.

Barseghyan asked Ararat’s governor Alik Sargssyan for explanation. The governor said he knows nothing about today’s happenings.

About 200 Artashat residents came to Sargssyan in a hope to get an answer. The house of local government was guarded intensely and they were bared from entering.

After long-lasting negotiations the governor agreed to receive Barseghyan and two journalists but not at the same time. Journalists got an opportunity to speak with Sargssyan only after his 30-minute conversation with the head of Demirchyans electoral team.

The governor told them he wasn’t in touch with what happened. Besides, he has no right to interfere in the law enforcement bodies’ work.
