ARAM SARGSSYAN WILL APPEAL TO COURT

Politics

Aram Sargssyan /”Republic” Party/, will dispute CEC decision regarding the schedules for enjoying Public TV airtime by candidates for presidency.

Candidates have right for 1-hour free of charge airtime and 2-hour long paid one on Public TV .

Under the order by CEC, airtime was distributed according to days. From January 21 to February 8 candidates will be given 6 minutes airtime each. The last days of election campaign – February 10-17, right for airtime is of 10 minutes long.

Majority of representatives of candidates in CEC think, such decision of CEC doesn’t allow them to make entire speeches and to broadcast films of more than 10 minutes long on Public TV .

Besides, there are contradictions in the Election Law Code. Aramazd Zakaryan, Aram Sargssyan’s assignee in CEC, shows the 2-nd plank of the 20-th article of Election Law Code. Under it CEC sets the order for equal enjoying the gratis airtime on Public TV, not controlling the 2 hours, envisaged for the paid airtime .

Answering Mr Zakaryan, CEC member and the schedule author Armen Sinanyan cites the 2-nd plank of 81-st article which says CEC provides equal conditions for candidates to enjoy both gratis and paid hours on Public TV airtime .

The Committee settled the quarrel down through voting. 7 voted for and 2 were against the decision. Voting over sequence of speeches on TV was taken. Artashes Geghamyan’s representative Aghassi Arshakyan called the 10 candidates not to take part in the casting lots and left the session hall. Aramazd Zakaryan didn’t take part in the drawing lots, saying CEC decision is of no moral and it will be disputed in the Court .

But lots were too favourable for those 2 candidates. Geghamyan got the right to start propaganda on Public TV on January 21. Aram Sargssyan will be the last to speak on Public TV on February 17 – the last day of propaganda.
