To execute death penalty in Armenia or not? What the public’ standpoint on this is
We are ready to meet the Europe demand by abolishing death penalty or should we consider priority N 1 our national problems?.

Today many approaches like those above and others regarding capital punishment were introduced at the seminar on “Issues of Human Life Right Defence in Armenia” . It was arranged by the Armenian Centre of Strategic and National Researches.

Lawyers, sociologists, representatives of literature, science and police invited to the discussion welcomed the chosen topic saying death penalty hasn’t been spoken about seriously for 6 years and no national scientific research was carried out.

”National Union” legal defence organisation conducted a survey. As Union Chair Pushkin Serobyan says, as a result, 87% of teachers, 67 of journalists, 76 of students, 54 of writers voted for capital punishment

Artak Zeynalyan, Republic Party political council member thinks a prisoner for life doesn’t consider himself punished and joins the society . He also says capital punishment is to be executed only if exclusive cases

Capital punishment execution has been put into abeyance since 1991. This fact, as Internal Affairs Counsellor Mikael Grigoryan thinks, gave rise to growth of criminal elements p>The majority of seminar participants think it is not time for talking about death penalty , as the Court system is incomplete yet . Besides, we must not forget we aren’t Europe by joining it and must not forget we are Armenians and we live in Armenia.
