ARMENIAN FEMINISTS MAKE EFFORTS TO SEIZE LEADING POSITIONS IN POLITICS
Support A1+!Armenian women decided with determination to take up leading positions in legislative and executive institutions of the republic. They think women play dismal role in political area nowadays. They are also unhappy about the fact, that so far there is not a single woman-minister in Armenia.
Females’ role in the field of ruling of the country became the key topic on the agenda of the assembly held Tuesday in the National Academy. The leaders of Armenian, Artsakhi and some offshore women’s organisations were present at the meeting. Minister of Social Security and the head of the National Assembly Commission on public health care and social issues spoke on behalf of the country leadership at the assembly.
It isn’t a secret that the post of Social Security Minister’s position is most attractive to women. And the Minister, Razmik Martirosyan, himself is aware of it. Welcoming the meeting participants, he however tried to shift their attention from politics to more important, as he said, female mission – giving birth to children and upbringing. “We have to think ahead of centuries about human resources reproduction”, he said.
Nevertheless, the meeting participants were told that Election Code would be revised before parliamentary elections. Some MPs proposed to allocate certain part of parliamentary seats especially for women.
