THE PRICE OF THE VICTORY
Support A1+!10 million Soviet citizens were spoken after the war to have perished in the Great Patriotic War. Later was announced of 20 millions. This figure was considered official for several years. But after Soviet Union collapse new publications were made which said about 25-27 million victims. Later even the figure 50 million was in turnover.
The war was a terrible ordeal for Soviet Union and the people. One may say the victory was achieved at a heavy price, even some historians dared write that the victory achieved at that price was equivalent to defeat.
Soviet country had serious losses.
Fascist troops annihilated 70.000 villages and populated areas, 1710 cities including Leningrad, Odessa, Kiev, Minsk, Stalingrad, Sevastopol, Smolensk, Pskov, Kharkov and so on.
25 million people lost their houses.
31.815 enterprises, 4100 railway stations, 40.000 hospitals, 89.000 schools, high colleges and technical secondary schools, 98.000 farms were destroyed.
The Germans took away from the country large amount of equipment and technical devices, ruined railway of 65.000 km. long and so on. But the losses in manpower were the heaviest one.
People perished in the battle field and captivity. Millions of people died of starvation, wounds, diseases. After thousands of people having been captured in the war were exiled to Siberia by the Authorities of their country.
