Kevin Mayer obliterates decathlon world record (video)
French athlete Kevin Mayer has broken the decathlon world record with a terrific performance at the Decastar meeting in Bordeaux. Mayer started the second day of competition with a tally of 4563 points, 140 behind American Ashton Eaton’s first-day total when he set his world record of 9045 points three years ago at the World Championships in Beijing. Mayer, who also won the world indoor heptathlon title in Birmingham earlier this year, produced personal bests in four of the ten events.
