LIVE: First session of National Assembly of 6th convocation starts in Yerevan (video)

The first session of the National Assembly of the 6th convocation got underway in Yerevan with the national anthem. The sitting is chaired by the oldest member of the National Assembly, Knyaz Hasanov, the head of the Kurdish community in Armenia and a member of the parliamentary group of the Republic Party of Armenia (HHK). The cabinet is expected to resign during today’s meeting. Besides, MPs will elect the speaker and two vice speakers of the National Assembly. As reported earlier, HHK held a session earlier this week to name its candidates for the positions. Accordingly, the party sees Ara Babloyan as parliament speaker. The party also named Eduard Sharmazanov and Arpine Hovhannisyan as vice speakers. Members of the Tsarukyan Alliance, the second biggest political force in parliament, will nominate Mikael Melkumyan as vice-speaker. Participating in the first sitting are Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II. MPs from the Yelk alliance are not present in the meeting.
