Child doctor returns to poetry world at the age of 60 (video)
The presentation of Kuwait-Armenian poetess Sylva Portoian’s book entitled “Komitas-my musical saint” took place at Komitas museum-institute.
“I am a child doctor. I used to write poem when I was a child, then I stopped writing. I have never taught that at the age of 60 I will resume writing poems and will return to the world of poetry,” says Mrs Portoian.
She is an author of 18 books, 16- in English; she is a winner of the Carnegie Poetry Prize.
She says, “There was a desire to write about Komitas, when artists and sculptors created the portrait of Vardapet.”
“I wanted to make these Armenian artists world famous. And I couldn’t imagine that people don’t know some of them in their homeland,” she noted.
By the way, she is the only Armenian citizen of Kuwait.
