Political analyst Sergey Minasyan says resources influenced the outcome of the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on April 2. He says only 15-20 percent of citizens cast conscience votes. He says the Armenian National Congress (HAK) had bad results in the Sunday polls. “Had Stepan Demirtchyan been included in the list, the chances to pass the threshold would have been much greater. Besides, Levon Ter-Petrosyan did everything in his latest interview to lower HAK’s chances in the elections,” the political analyst said. Sergey Minasyan was surprised that Artur Baghdasaryan’s Armenian Renaissance failed to pass the 5% threshold, given the fact that the party possessed certain administrative resources. He says the Yelk (Way Out) alliance will have ‘a balancing role’ in the new parliament. “But we must understand that a significant part of the opposition has not taken seats in the National Assembly.” While the political expert says he expected the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) to have a landslide victory in the elections and form a government, he thinks that the HHK will again choose the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) as its ally because Dashnaktsutyun is an influential force in the Diaspora.
