Potato price to increase in the near future (video)
In the upcoming weeks the potato price in the market will increase by about 15 %, says Hrach Berberyan, president of the Agrarian-Rural Union of Armenia NGO. He thinks that the reason is the shortage of potato harvest caused by climatic factors. “Alas we had 65 days of drought, which affected the overall harvest. We didn’t get the quantity we had expected. Due to the drought we lost 10-15 percent of the harvest. The tuber of potato remained small and didn’t grow.” According to the words of Hrach Berberyan as a result of this there will be also a problem with seeds, “We advise the villagers not to obtain seedlings from occasional farmers. They must pay attention to its quality.” There is another situation with the harvest of fruits and vegetables. “This year’s fruits and grapes have been the goodness of God and we have stable harvest. The number of exportations has increased. Alas the customs authorities don’t publish how much has been exported, they mention different numbers, but the process is really positive.” Hrach Berberyan has concerns over the process of purveyance of grapes, though the government is trying to take up some steps, “We must understand that Russian market doesn’t obtain such a large quantity of wine as it used to and it affects the volumes of grapes’ purveyance.”
