Opinion: They drink whiskey in Poplavok and then publicly throw mud at each other
The document [submitted by Serzh Sargsyan] cannot be called “constructional reform:” it is a new constitution for a new country, lawyer Nikolay Baghdasaryan said on September 16. He says we shall continue to have a ruling political party led by ‘a king.’ “The king will stay in power till his death. The heirs will succeed the king – the throne will pass smoothly unto his son and grandson,” the lawyer said. Nikolay Baghdasaryan says the new constitution does not guarantee the mechanism of checks and balances. “Let us take the example of a family. If everyone in the family does what the father says, it means the family is not going in the right direction. The family is going in the right direction if the father and mother are in their right places,” he said. To solve the problem he suggests creating two different poles. “What we witness today is that representatives of two parties drink whiskey together in “Aragast,” a famous café in Yerevan best known as “Poplavok,” and then take over the local media to throw mud at each other,” Mr Baghdasaryan said.
