A1+ Company has interviewed Levon Zurabyan, deputy chairman of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) who heads HAK's parliamentary faction at the National Assembly. Can an opposition party meet with Serzh Sargsyan to discuss the package of draft constitutional amendments even if the party intends to reject them? “The thing is not who meets with Serzh Sargsyan or rejects his invitation. The point is who accepts Sargsyan’s initiative to amend the Constitution and who rejects it,” Zurabyan said. “Knowing that Article 50 of the current Constitution prohibits him to run for a third consecutive term,  Serzh Sargsyan,as the head of the country, wants to amend the Constitution and switch to a parliamentary system of government where he can combine the post of the leader of the ruling party with that of the speaker of the National Assembly and continue to lead the country. This means Serzh Sargsyan is not going to leave active politics, rather, he intends to strengthen  his rule in the country by amending the Organic Law,” Zurabyan added. Article 50 says the same person may not be elected for the post of the President of the Republic for more than two consecutive terms. Watch the video to know Zurabyan's opinion on the draft constitutional amendments.
