Mkrtich Minasyan: Businessmen only care for their pockets (video)
One of the major problems the Union of Architects is concerned about is the fate of the buildings of Zvartnots airport and Acharyan University, Chairman of the Union of Architects of Armenia Mkrtich Minasyan told reporters on Wednesday. “It seems as if one has torn big pieces from our history and wiped them out. There are buildings in Armenia which are already left in the past, in the memory of people,” he said. The Union is going to write a letter to the Culture Ministry asking the latter to include in the list of cultural monuments Zvartnots airport and the summer hall of the Moscow Cinema. Mr Minasyan is hopeful that the public will no longer be deprived of important structures. “People had to work for many years to design and plan a building while today they destroy these structures at one strike. The attics of many buildings are distorted,” he said. Mr Minasyan believes that the city still has the necessary resources to change everything. The only problem is that laws are not observed in the country. “Businessmen do not understand what is important for the country; they try to do everything possible not to empty their pockets,” he said speaking about Yerevan's “Covered Market that remained an apple of discord between the new owner and civil society for a long time.
