The recent surveys in Gyumri show that thousands of families living in temporary shacks are not included in the list of homeless people waiting for state compensation after the devastating earthquake in Armenia in 1988, which means that they will have to live in these miserable conditions for many years.

Over 2800 apartments have been built in the city in the last three years, but many of the families, who lived in multi-storey apartment buildings before the earthquake, did not even receive apartments in the newly-constructed residential area. According to the government, apartments will be built in 2013 for 400-420 families of the group, Gyumri-based Shirak NGO reports.
