Samvel Aleksanyan, a member of the Republican Party faction, has violated ethics rules. The decision was announced by the Ethics Committee of Armenia's National Assembly after it completed hearing of the claim filed by civic activist Vardges Gaspari against Alexanyan.
Gaspari lodged the complaint against the lawmaker following a June 21 incident near the National Assembly during which Alexanyan and his men approached Gaspari outside the parliament building where Gaspari was protesting against the Harsnakar scuffle, seized the poster he was carrying and knocked him to the ground.
Five of the six members of the Ethics Committee voted for the decision.
The Committee is chaired by Nikol Pashinyan, an MP of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) Merujan Simonyan (Prosperous Armenia Party-BHK), Hovhannes Margaryan (Country of Law -OEK), Artsvik Minasyan (ARF-Dashnaktsutyun), Zaruhi Postanjyan (HHK) and David Harutyunyan (Republican Party of Armenia - HHK) are also included in the Committee.
