A traditional running race of disabled people started today in Republic Square of Yerevan. It is the second year that the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs organizes such a race on the occasion of Independence Day, with the assistance of several NGOs. The participants run to the Yerablur Memorial Complex to lay a wreath in memory of the freedom fighters killed in the war.

The Head of the Mass Sport and Physical Education Department of the Ministry Yegish Davtyan expressed hope that next year this event will be nationwide.

Among the participants were students of the Institute of Physical Culture, cyclists, and members of a number of sport clubs.

«Events of this kind provide me and many other disabled persons with the opportunity to integrate better into society,» said Arshak Manukiyan, a man in a wheelchair who has taken part in this project repeatedly, thanks to which he has found new friends and experienced lots of positive emotions.
Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Khachik Asryan made a speech of welcome, after which the participants began their race. The race was open to anyone, with no age and gender restrictions.
