It is likely that Lieutenant Colonel Vardan Samvelyan, who was deputy commander of unit N. of the RA Ministry of defense, will say at the next court hearing why he intended to explode the Harsnakar Restaurant Complex. Today he already admitted his guilt.
The court examination of his case by the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan's Avan and Nor Notk administrative districts has been postponed until October 4. Vardan Samvelyan will make his final speech at that hearing. Today the prosecutor demanded that Samvelyan be given 6 months in prison and fined 200,000 AMD.
In accordance with the petition of Vardan Samvelyan's lawyer Hovhannes Harutyunyan, the court herding is proceeding under an accelerated procedure, i.e. no witnesses will speak.
It should be reminded that on the night of July 1, Vardan Samvelyan, who was enraged by the death of the military doctor Vahe Avetyan who had been cruelly beaten up, entered Harsnakar Restaurant. He was armed with ammunition and threatened to explode the restaurant. Vardan Samvelyan was arrested on suspicion of having committed a crime under Article 235 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
