Laying irrigation pipes in the area called "Vanki Dzor" in the village of Astghadzor, Gegharkunik province, the builders discovered an old tonir (a cylindrical clay oven) when they were digging holes in a hill. It was a well-preserved tonir, although a small part of the oven broke, Martuninfotum reported.
The tonir possibly bears evidence of Astghadzor as the oldest settlement in the area.
Astghadzor was resettled in 1828-1830.
