Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office (HCAV) has disseminate a statement demanding to set free the political prisoners.
"According to the July 20, 2012 decision of The Court of Instance of Administrative Districts Kentron and Nork Marash (Judge Gaguik Poghosyan) Armenian National Congress(ՀԱԿ) activists Tigran Arakelyan was sentenced to 6 years' and Artak Karapetyan to 3 years' imprisonment, David Qiramijyan and Sargis Guevorgyan were sentenced to 2 years' imprisonment.
The violence against the Armenian National Congress(ՀԱԿ) young activists on the 9th of August, 2011 in the neighborhood of Yerevan Swan lake, used by the policemen because of the political allegiance of the activists was qualified by both pre-trial and judicial investigation bodies as violence against policemen by young activists.
In spite of many statements of Authorities this fact proves that the political prosecutions against the citizens by bringing criminal cases in periods preceding and following the 2008 elections, continues.
Only a few month later the regular elections will be held, and Judicial system of Armenia again returns to the activation of its role as a political tool.
Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office (HCAV) finds that the judicial decisions on the Armenian National Congress(ՀԱԿ) activists are political prosecution and, once more RA citizen's fundamental rights are violated, once more Armenia's Authorities are avoiding their responsibilities towards the RA citizens and International Society. By strongly criticizing this shameful verdict HCAV demands
- To stop criminal prosecution against Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, David Qiramijyan and Sargis Guevorgyan.
- To begin a criminal prosecution against Armenian National Congress(ՀԱԿ) activists for using violence against policemen"- is mentioned in the statement.
